Fernie Half Marathon

Sunday, October 3rd will see Fernie host the 2010 edition of its annual Half Marathon. The route being used is a popular one for the runners and hikers of all types that live and visit Fernie, British Columbia. It is an all-trail one, taking runners along the Elk River and through many of Fernie's excellent parks. The run also has spectacular views of the mountain scenery that surrounds the town. Categories of competition are Male and Female Solo, Male and Female Team, Mixed Team and Kids. Awards will be given for Fastest Female, Male and team of 3.

Still Summer In Fernie

While it's going to be a bit cold and rainy this weekend, things are looking sunny for the rest of September. That means there is still time to enjoy the mountains in their summer coats. The kilometers of trails that connect all the nooks and crannies of Fernie are always great fun. Nothing is quite as refreshing as a brisk stroll through the mountain air. Right now many of the local wildlife are making their preparations for winter. That means extra chances of seeing some of the excellent fauna that abound in this pristine mountain paradise.

New Golf Course Near Fernie

A new 18-hole golf course is being constructed in nearby Sparwood. Just 25 minutes away from Fernie, the course will give golfers who visit the area more variety. Fernie is perhaps more famous as a ski town, with incredible backcountry terrain that brings skiers and snowboarders of all types to the area each winter. However, just because it is still summer doesn't mean there isn't anything to do here. Fernie offers a great place to spend the summers, with miles upon miles of hiking and biking trails. There is also a local golf course, in addition to the new one being constructed.

Summer On Two Wheels

Even though the temperatures take us closer to that wonderful day when we can break out the skis and snowboards, it is still technically summer. That means that you can still get some great mountain biking done on all the trails here. Fernie is the perfect place for mountain biking, with plenty of tough singletrack and an abundance of interesting terrain. Fernie also plays host to a number of cool races like the Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival, and next week's Tears & Gears Mountain Duathlon. Of course, the most famous race here is the TransRockies.

Fernie - The Ultimate Fishing Town

Fernie, British Columbia is a scenic mountain town with plenty to offer visitors year round. One of the more popular summer activities is fishing. The World Fishing Network is currently holding a competition for the Ultimate Fishing Town in Canada. With voting open online until September 1st, Fernie is currently in 10th, just behind Dauphin, Manitoba and Port Alberni, B.C. If Fernie makes it to the top, the community will win CA$25,000 to help improve the fishing infrastructure and amenities.

Fernie, British Columbia is a veritable winter paradise. While this comes as no surprise given its location in the Canadian Rockies, what may be surprising for some is the great time to be had during the summer. The simple truth is that Fernie is an outdoor lover’s paradise. All kinds of summer activities can be enjoyed here such as hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, fishing, boating, and golf. There is something for the whole family to enjoy. Fernie is located in the beautiful Elk Valley, which is part of the East Kootenay region of British Columbia in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

The Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival

This Saturday and Sunday, August 21st and 22nd, the Full Throttle Mountain Bike Festival will take place here in Fernie, British Columbia. It will include not only plenty of mountain biking, but hiking and sight-seeing as well. Saturday will feature an all-mountain downhill race incorporating singletrack with speed and endurance aspects as well. There will also be a Dirt Jump Jam and a kid's race. Sunday will host a short loop race, as well as a dual slalom race.
