The Magnificent Lizard Range

Here in Fernie, British Columbia, one of the main areas for backcountry skiing is the Lizard Range. Located just to the south-east of Fernie, the range is 19 miles wide and 27 miles long. This well known range reaches elevations as high as 7,743 feet and keeping up with the B.C. standards, also gets lots of dry, fluffy snow each year. The snowfall is usually about 350 inches annually, which means there is always plenty of fresh powder. If you're looking to go backcountry this year, you can't do better than a snow cat tour of the Lizard Range. To best experience this great terrain, book your tour with Island Lake Catskiing or Powder Cowboy. Both known for unforgettable tours and a stylish comfort.
Island Lake offers a more upscale vacation, complete with luxury rooms, gourmet food, and a world-class spa. More importantly, their tenure covers a vast 7,000 acres, including the north end of the Lizard Range, a generous portion of the Cedar Valley, Mount Baldy and Mount Fernie. The diverse terrain includes plenty of gladed forest, powder lines, and steep chutes. Some of the runs even let you ski the backcountry all the way back to the lodge. Catskiing Canada
Powder Cowboy offers a little twist on your standard ski vacation - a Western themed experience. Stay in a cozy log cabin and pamper your worn out feet with soothing, heated floors. Or, after a good day of skiing, mosey on over to the Big Horn Saloon and drench your thirst. Though the mountains are not themed, you’ll find as much action as you would back in the Wild West. Powder Cowboy's breathtaking 6,000 acres offers some perfect, naturally gladed tree skiing, as well as plenty of sweet powder lines.
If you're looking to experience great snow Catskiing in the backcountry of British Columbia, the Lizard Range of Fernie is the place to be. It's also a great place in the summer for hiking, biking, and many other activities. Should you visit in the summer, both lodges are still open and offer great rates. In snow or shine, you’ll find the adventure you’re looking for. Heli boarding
